Georgics uncovers the power of being reconnected to the earth and learning principles of community and self-reliance. Scholars read several classics that take place in an agrarian setting so they see the value and growth that comes from hard work.
The 7 Georgic Principles along with their results they explore include:
-Providence and Seasons results in Work and Joy
-Self-validation results in Self-Reliance
-Mission results in Vision (Seeing the whole picture)
-Real estate ownership results in Forgiveness and Perseverance
-Community stewardship results in Community interdependence
-Local interdependence results in friendship, gratitude, and hope
-Entrepreneurialism results in Faith
They also learn about what this project calls the six "mini-ags". These are soil, grains, livestock, intensive gardening, 365-day harvest, and integrated pest disease management (IPDM)
A strong emphasis is placed on the power of planning something "spiritually" before physically creating it, and the students plan a Georgic project which can be anything from planning and growing a garden to raising bees or poultry. Finally, they can sell their products in our Georgics market day.
