Age Recommendation: 15-17
Prerequisites: Shakespeare Conquest
Concurrent Project Recommendation: Pyramid or Quest
Classical Acting goes in depth in the foundational philosophies behind many of the theater games and activities to understand why we do them and how to teach the scholars about these philosophies. Scholars will study one of Shakespeare’s plays learning about text analysis and the heightened language of Shakespeare. They will create their own spin on this play as they take charge in writing the script, producing, directing, and creating this play together. They will also study at least one other theatrical genre from history.
Classical Acting focuses on having the students lead out and begin mentoring each other. That means scholars will learn how to mentor and will lead the class themselves, working out plans and details. This course will change our understanding of Shakespeare’s words. We will discuss the audition process and how and why it is different from Shakespeare Conquest auditions. Scholars will create and put on a play from any era of theater, but if they choose Shakespeare for their second play, they will perform it in the Elizabethan era.
Our classical acting troupe is a traveling troupe, and as such they will also seek locations they can take their play to as a service to the community.
*Please note that age recommendations and prerequisites are not hard and fast. There is room to individualize as a scholar's needs dictate.
