Core phase is the center of a child's individual personality and development. Concepts of self, family, work, and life are established. This is a magical phase when a child should be nurtured and their personality will emerge in response. This will result in happy, interactive, confident children. The Core is developed through family structure and flow, work and play, lessons exemplifying good and bad, right and wrong, true and false.
Scholarly pursuits are not at the forefront during this critical time in a child's life. Playing is a priority, and learning to work and being read to will accomplish good things as a child gets older. There should be a rich learning environment and a family culture of self education in a TJed home.
Liber Academy is a family school, so when a scholar and their parent (acting as a mentor) attend, there will be a place available for younger siblings. Our Core phase class has changed from year to year, so needs are assessed as membership grows. 2023-2024 core phase classes are as follows:
Nursery with free play- Ages 0-3
Unstructured play, reading, games, music, arts and crafts
Nursery Rhymes class: where the children explore a Rhyme through song, dance, games with actions, science experiments, art projects, etc.
Nursery rhymes introduce babies and children to the idea of storytelling, promote social skills and boost language development. They also lay the foundation for learning to read and spell. Repetition of rhymes and stories is good for the brain, teaching how language works and improving memory, concentration, spatial intelligence and thinking skills. Nursery rhymes help children learn to have vivid imaginations filled with colorful characters and various languages. There are several key skills/development areas that can be influenced by simple nursery rhymes. They are: Cognitive development, Language and Literacy Skills, Math, Motor Skills, and Social and Emotional awareness. (boysandgirlsnursey.com)
