Our Junior Family School

OUR FAMILY COMMONWEALTH

Liber Academy is a home-education support community. For this reason, we do not assume the responsibility of your child’s education. Our Scholar Program has trained liberal arts mentors and this is appropriate for scholar phase of learning. The Junior’s Program is a “Family school.”  We believe that the best mentors are parents. As this is the case, each family is required to have a parent at the Commonwealth every week.

OUR JUNIOR PROGRAM: (These classes take place on the same day as the Scholar Classes.)

CORE and LOVE of LEARNING CLASSES:

We know what it takes to raise the “Artist Generation” children.  And through the principles which build foundation and “unlocking the chambers of the heart” with the “Organic Environments & Materials,” we are doing it!  The FOUNDATION BUILDER GUIDE is a Mother’s Project and it’s the way we are assisting the Innovators, Creators and Artist’s.

Here’s what we are doing:

9:15 – 10:30 a.m.  FOUNDATION BUILDER PROJECT

In the first hour, each Mother, who owns her own Membership to this Guide,  rotates teaching the principle discovery environments from it, with her own genius or leads the self-directed learners in storytelling and project building.

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  MOM’s CLASS- as chosen and facilitated by the Junior Mentor

Then we have a Mom’s class in the next hour beginning with discussing books which lay the foundation of this Hebrew Model of Leadership Education:

  1. A Thomas Jefferson Education by Oliver DeMille
  2. Teach the Children by Neil Flinders, Intro and first 4 chapters, plus others.
  3. The Lost Language of Symbolism by Alonzo L. Gaskill

  1.  1 hour of mom-directed Hebraic thematic unit around positive scripting stories, including songs, creative rhythm & dance, memorization, stations and classic stories  (see The Foundation Builder Guide).  Then 1 hour of Mom supervised free-play during Mom’s Class.
  2.  2 hours in a Mom directed Club.

The LOVE OF LEARNERS ages 8-11, called Da Vinci’s, will enjoy:

  1.  1 hour in a self-directed individualized, classic book, project-based learning class.  Including storytelling.  Then 1 hour of Mom supervised free-play during Mom’s Class.

Girls enjoy Girl-led activities, reading, crafts, games, and blossoming friendships.

Boys Club ages 8-11 (for boys):

The boys Mastering Knighthood club will be reading and discussing books, playing games, working on group strategies, solving problems and having an all around good time getting to know each other and learning to work together as teammates.

PYRAMID INTRO OPTION: Core book studies, “I wonders” – Students learn how to see patterns and use the language of math and apply it to their “core book.” which is the book which students consider holds the truth so that they can compare and measure scientific theory, lines of logic and speculations. Students are encouraged to wonder about the world around them and record it in a “Log Book.”  This pattern is shown through a book we read together called A Wheel on a School.  Stories are also told of the great mathematicians and scientists. Experiments and simulations are conducted.
